The return of fall is guaranteed to bring 3 things: sweaters, boots, and pumpkin spice lattes. And it’s no surprise that the latter has turned another drink-inspired makeup trend on TikTok. Now that there’s a chill in the air, creators are warming up their latte looks with shades of rustic orange and cinnamon brown — and it’s catching on, as evidenced by the 9.5 million views on the #pumpkinspicemakeup.
Much like its predecessor, latte makeup, this look is about capitalizing a singular color palette for all features of the face. But rather than a caramel color, the pumpkin spice latte makeup is focused on orangey, spice-toned hues. While orange makeup doesn’t necessarily sound flattering, you’re in for a surprise. This trendy look is a great way to warm up your facial features and evokes the feel-good vibe of the season.
Of course, shades of orange — including deep auburn, copper, and rust — are essential for this look, but like a good recipe, this calls for more than one ingredient, or rather, makeup color. Pumpkin spice latte makeup includes tones like muted brown sugar and hues of roasted spices to give the perfect fall topping to your makeup look. Similar to a drinkable PSL, the base of this makeup look is anchored in toasty brown and cream coffee-inspired hues. Starting with your base, consider mixing in a few drops of Westman Atelier’s Illuminator Drops in the shade Peau De Soleil, which will add a beautiful bronze shimmer. After you spot treat with concealer, warm up your complexion even more with a spiced bronzer like NARS Laguna Talc-Free Bronzer Powder or Juvia’s Place Bronzed Duo to contour and sculpt your face to perfection. As for spicing things up, think of your eyes, cheeks, and lips as the “pumpkin cream foam” to your “latte” base. We recommend opting for just a touch of a peach-hued formula to compliment the pumpkin spice color theme. The Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush in the shade Love topped with the Nars Blush in the shade Taj Mahal creates a pumpkin-spiced flush of color.
From there, it’s time to focus on the eyes. After applying a primer, sweep a soft matte brown all over your lids to set the tone for warmer hues. Using an orange-based eyeshadow, apply this on top, focusing on keeping the color below the crease. In lieu of eyeliner, use a dark brown to add definition to your eyes with the help of a small eyeshadow brush. Use this shade to line your upper and lower lash line, ensuring it blends out completely. Complete the eyes by curling your lashes and adding a coat or two of your favorite lengthening mascara.
Before you go, finish your pumpkin spice makeup with a burgundy lipstick. This warm, brick shade will complement the orange hues beautifully. But, if you rather let your eyes (and cheeks!) do most of the talking, we recommend an elevated neutral lip. Line your lips with brown lip liner (we love the Mac Lip Pencil in Chestnut), then apply light rusty pink lipstick like the Merit Signature Lipstick in Slip and top it off with a warm shimmery gloss like Ami Colé Hydrating Lip Treatment Oil in 5/17 for a touch of shine.
And with that, you have a beautiful makeup look to match your favorite autumnal drink. Cheers!
