Eye-wise, I keep it pretty minimal, just opting for mascara on a normal dayâsometimes I pair it with an all-over eyeshadow, but I’m not an eyeliner gal, despite there being some great eyeliners for beginners out there. It’s described as having a ‘water-resistant formula,’ so theoretically it should be able to withstand getting caught in a surprise rain shower or a gentle cry sesh. Technically though, it’s not fully waterproofâbut I prefer that as it’s easier to remove with a makeup remover or micellar water, without needing to be too vigorous.
HOW TO APPLY THE RARE BEAUTY MASCARA
To apply this mascara, I’d recommend curling your lashes first with your preferred eyelash curler, before then gently wiggling the mascara wand from side to side as you stroke up along your lashes, from root to tip. This side-to-side motion will feather out your lashes and will help to get an even coating on your lashes and avoid clumps.

So, is this Rare Beauty mascara good? My answer is yes. It does everything it promises to doâit’s buildable, comfortable, volumizing, and lasts all day without smudging.
I’ve worn it every day, seven days a week, for over a month, and haven’t experienced any transferring or flaking. I’m also a big fan of its chunky tube, with its soft, matte pink finish. It feels expensive and looks soo cute in my makeup bag.
It’s also easy to apply, even with a slightly large wand, which I wouldn’t necessarily have gone for, but didn’t find it in any way messy or hard to handle. In fact, with every use, it leaves my lashes looking lengthened, voluminous, and curled upâand it lasts all day long, so everything you can ask of a mascara. The formula itself feels great on the lashes as well, not super stiff or brittle.
This Rare Beauty mascara fends off moisture well (from tears and even sweat from a gym sesh) but comes off like a dream with a bit of micellar water.
My main gripe with this product though is that it’s only available in blackâif this came in a soft brown shade, it would be a real game-changer. There’s also the question of the price…
This mascara will set you back $20 which is pretty pricey for a mascara. That being saidâlike with all of Rare’s line-upâthe amount of product you get for the money is generous since the tube is pretty chunky.

So, my final verdict: it’s great and if you’ve been hunting far and wide for a mascara that is both gentle on your eyes but still delivers length and volume, this could be one to try. I will say this though, other mascaras out there are comparable and more inexpensive on the market, but if you’re a Selena stan looking to make another (or your first) Rare Beauty purchase, I’d recommend it for the cute tube alone!

Tip #1: Use Less Glue From the Start
To prevent a buildup of gunk and glue on your lashes at the end of the day, try to use as little glue as possible during application. My best tip is not to apply too much glue on the false lash to begin with. Think you may have gone too heavy with your glue? Recommended wiping it off and starting from scratch. Tip #2: Donât Pull Them Off
Time to take off your lashes for the day? Donât start pulling them off, tugging or scrubbing. You wonât get all the glue off your lashes, and you risk getting glue in your eyes. Whatâs worse? Youâre going to end up ripping your own lashes.
Tip #3: Use a Gentle Eye Makeup Cleanser
Instead, to get your fake lashes and glue off cleanly, Lee recommends using a soft and gentle eye makeup remover. For years Iâve been using the LancĂ´me Bi Facil Double Action Eye Makeup Remover; itâs the best for getting rid of lash glue. Just pour some onto a cotton pad and dab it over your lashes until the strip falls off cleanly. Plus, you can also use the product to clean glue off your falsies so theyâre good as new for reapplication.

STEP 1: Apply Mascara
The first step to applying fake lashes doesnât actually involve any falsies. âI like to start with a light coat of mascara,â says Gonzalez. This helps the lash strip blend with your real lashes better. She calls it âcamouflageâ for falsies. One of our favorites is the Maybelline New York Falsies Lash Lift Mascara.
STEP 2: Fit the Strip to Your Eye

STEP 3: Glue
Once the eyelashes are the proper size, itâs time to apply the glue. No matter which method you choose, just be sure you donât glob on too much product. Lightly blow on the glue until it becomes less wet and more tacky, then youâre ready to apply. STEP 4: Apply Your Lashes
Now time for the tricky part â application. âStaring downward into a mirror, place the lashes and push with [your] fingers as close to the root of your lash,â says Gonzalez. Looking down is the key here; it will help you get the fake lash strip as close to your real lash line as possible.

Letâs be honest, the ultimate goal here is to make our fake lashes look like the real deal â right? To do so, Gonzalez recommends applying your fake lashes after you do the rest of your eye makeup. âIf done before, eyeshadow tends to fall onto the tops of the lashes,â she explains.
Another hack: Opt for individual lashes instead of a strip. It may seem like more work, but for truly natural-looking lashes, individually placed fake lashes mesh better with your real ones. HOW TO REMOVE FAKE LASHES FOR MINIMAL DAMAGE
While peeling away fake eyelashes can be very satisfying, taking them off the wrong way can pull at your real lashes. To avoid any tugging in this sensitive area, reach for a makeup remover. âI like to use an oil-based remover, paying close attention to the roots. They will literally slide off.â

We know this sounds weird, but it will be SO easy to apply the tiny blocks of lashes individually â trust us, it will revolutionize your lash game. The beauty of false lashes is that they can open up your eyes, alter the shape, and make them look bigger and sexier. But, if you choose the wrong pair of lashes, they can do the complete opposite. Depending on the shape of your eye, whether itâs almond, round, hooded, deep-set or monolid, the lash style needs to change. So, while almond-shaped eyes can get away with almost any lashes and deep-set eyes can go extra glam, round eyes will look even more sultry with a whispy lash that has more drama at the outer lash, and hooded lids need to go a little smaller. How To Easily Clean False Lashes
False lashes can be expensive, but spending money on quality lashes is totally worth it and cost-effective in the long run if you know how to clean them properly. Lashes are super delicate, so the most important thing to remember is that you need to be gentle with them. Whenever youâre cleaning them, always hold them firmly at the base of the lashes so that the lashes arenât pulled from the band. Storing the lashes back in the original package is the best way to keep your falsies clean and safe. If you attach them firmly to the band and press them down this will help them to stay curled.
How To Safely Remove False Lashes
Removing false lashes can be dangerous â if youâve ever caught your own eyelashes in the process, youâll know the pain is real! The trick is to soak a cotton pad with your weapon of choice (micellar water, eye-makeup remover, or cleansing oil) and let it sit on your eye for at least 20 seconds to loosen and dissolve the glue. Then gently peel away the lash with your fingers. If the lash still isnât easy to remove, soak another cotton pad in solution and let it sit on your eye for longer and then try again. Et voila! Youâre lash-free with your natural lashes still intact!
