Curious about the cute lilâ ice facial tool that popped up on both Kourt and Kendallâs IGS recently? Weâve got the intel (because of course we had to get our hands on one as well!).
Facial icing â and the wider concept of cryotherapy â have boomed in popularity this year. Cheap and easy, the cold temperatures work to constrict blood flow and define facial features, not to mention shake off signs of fatigue.

First off, we are big fans of ice facialsâthey can help reduce puffiness, brighten our complexion, stimulate blood circulation, and lift skin. Weâre into this type of tool because it is reusable, refillable, and foolproof to use. Kendall shared in her post that she loves using hers for her morning ice facials, but it can be used any time of day.
The Contour Cube is essentially just a tool that can be used like an ice block container but is designed in a way so that it works with the contours of the face. You simply fill it with water (or coconut water, if youâre feeling boujee) and move it along the face to refresh, tighten, and tone. Itâs a viral TikTok product (!) that explains how it might have found its way into Jennerâs skincare routine.
Advertisements
To prep, it, simply fill it with filtered water and pop it in the freezer until itâs frozen solid. Take the top off and bada bing bada boom, itâs ready to glide across your face. The bottom cover stays on, acting as a grip so that the ice doesnât slide out of your hands while youâre using it. When youâre done, put the top back on and stick it back in the freezer.
How to use the Contour CubeÂ
After cleansing your face, run your Contour Cube under water to defrost slightly
Apply to your face in upward circular motions moving the ice continuously in 30-second intervals for up to 1 to 2 minutes on each side of your face
For optimal results, follow your usual moisturizing routine
Avoid contact with eyes and if you have sensitive skin, discontinue use if signs of irritation appear
But youâre not limited to just using water with this nifty tool, as you can see from Kourtâs post. Rose water, green tea, coconut milk, aloe vera, lemon water, and cucumber water can also be used instead of plain water.Â
Kourt added cucumber slices for extra de-puffing action. Some other ideas: green tea for anti-inflammatory benefits, coconut milk for hydration, or rosewater for a glow.

TikTok loves a skincare hack, but apparently, Lori Harveyâs yogurt face mask took things too far. The model and entrepreneur took to the platform to share her tried-and-true tip, which involves smearing her face with Greek yogurt to quickly diminish the appearance of dark marks, only to be met with a slew of opinionated comments.
Advertisements
âIâm about to put you guys on game,â she says in the clip, which shows Harvey standing in her bathroom with the yogurt applied to her face. âSo, I got a facial the other day and she did extractions, and it left a couple of dark marks, and thatâs a no-no. So, what I like to do when I want to get rid of them quickly…â â she then holds up a container of Fage Total 0% Greek Yogurt â â…game changer. Put this on after you wash your face, let it dry, and wash it off with cold water. Itâs like magic erase marker.â
While Harvey swears by this edible hack, TikTok users werenât quite sure what to think. Some were downright skeptical (comments like âIâm not trying more DIYs manâ and âfood is to eat, skin care is for skin careâ are aplenty) while others claim they, too, have seen the benefits of yogurt for their skin (âMy favorite as well! The girls that get it, get it,â one commenter wrote), with many pointing out that itâs a common practice in Middle Eastern cultures.Â

There are also a few people calling out the fact that lactic acid (found in yogurt) products â of which there are many on the market â essentially have the same brightening effect.
Needless to say, the people had *thoughts*, prompting Harvey to return to TikTok a couple of days later with none other than celebrity esthetician Joanna Vargas, who promptly backed up the starâs yogurt hack. âFirst of all, in other countries, using yogurt as a way of dis-inflaming the skin, hydrating the skin, exfoliating the skin â itâs a real thing, guys,â Vargas said. She also added that when she was in esthetician school âway back in the dayâ, students learned the yogurt hack as a way to calm down the skin when nothing else is working.Â
To set the record straight, BeautyLeeBar spoke with board-certified dermatologist Dr. Hadley King who explains that Topical yogurt contains lactic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid, that provides gentle exfoliation by dissolving dead skin cells. âThis helps to create a healthy glow and prevent acne, and also diminish fine lines and decrease discolorations,â King explains. âThe probiotics in yogurt may help to bolster the microbiome of the skin, which we are learning plays a role in acne, rosacea, eczema, and other skin conditions, and the fat in full-fat yogurt has moisturizing properties. If you are going to try topical yogurt, I’d recommend full fat, plain, unflavored, and unsweetened. And yes, lots of similar benefits from moisturizers that contain alpha hydroxy acids and probiotics.â
I just got here yâall not about to bully me off TikTok 𤣠relaxxx skincare experts. Obviously I couldâve showed yâall a lactic acid serum or promoted my Vitamin C Serum BUT I was trying to show you guys an easy and cheap DIY mask that has similar benefits đ #skincare
Of course, it might not work for every skin type. However, itâs worth a try if youâre looking for a natural and inexpensive way to treat your skin concerns.

PRIMP TIP
Use this mask for 15-30 minutes and apply a generous amount if you do decide to give this DIY a chance.
But it is typically best for those with acne-prone skin to avoid dairy in their diet and routine. So, what is the safest option for tackling dark marks and discoloration? It all comes back to having a solid skincare routine in place. Dark spots and discoloration are best treated with a balanced skincare routine of hydration, chemical exfoliation, and sun protection. Focusing on products that contain antioxidants and peptides is ideal.
In other words, trying out the yogurt skincare hack comes at your own risk. Play it safe and consult with your esthetician or dermatologist for a customized skincare routine.

It Hydrates Skin
Yogurt is a rich source of fats and protein, which works excellently as a natural moisturizer. According to a 2011 study, yogurt may reduce water loss from the skin and seal in moisture.
It Brightens Skin
Did you know yogurt also boasts natural brightening effects? According to dermatologists, yogurt contains lactic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that provides gentle exfoliation to the skin, buffing away dead skin cells to reveal fresh, glowing skin.
It Treats Discoloration
Lori Harvey wasnât wrong when she said yogurt cleared up her dark marks. Thanks to its exfoliating benefits, topical yogurt can treat dark spots and hyperpigmentation. It can also fade post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation left over by pimples.
It Reduces Signs of Aging
Research shows that yogurt supports natural collagen and improves skin elasticity, helping to increase skin firmness while fading fine lines and wrinkles. Itâs worth including in your daily skincare routine if youâre looking for a natural anti-aging formula that can be found in your fridge.
It Alleviates Acne and Other Skin Conditions
âThe probiotics in yogurt may help to bolster the microbiome of the skin, which we are learning plays a role in acne, rosacea, eczema, and other skin conditions, and the fat in full-fat yogurt has moisturizing properties,â explains New York-based board-certified dermatologist Dr. Hadley King.
If youâre seeking clear skin, turn to yogurt for its acne-fighting effects. Thanks to its helpful bacteria, yogurt can combat Propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria responsible for those painful red breakouts.
It Provides UV Protection
Research from 2015 suggests that the probiotics in yogurt may be able to reduce the damaging effects of the sunâs UV rays. These probiotics act as antioxidants, neutralizing the harmful effects of free radicals. This can also reduce sun-related skin issues like fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots.
Of course, youâll still need to wear sunscreen daily to get full protection. But yogurt can help keep skin healthy, youthful, and glowing.
Prefer to pick up face masks that are already ready to use instead of DIY-ing them? Youâll find probiotics like those found in yogurt in cleansers, lotions, and creams. Looking for something different? Try one of these top face masks.
This clarifying facial moisturizer is best for those with acne-prone skin. The inclusion of cucumber juice, willow bark extract, and of course yogurt, calms the skin while extracting impurities that cause blemishes.Â

If thereâs one thing we are always on the lookout for, itâs tips on how to achieve flawless, glowing skin. Luckily, we have celebrities like Hailey Bieber to let us in on their skincare secrets. Well known for her flawless skin, she recently launched her beauty line, Rhode. While Rhode currently has a waitlist, her viral Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothie does not.

Launched at Erewhon Market in June, Hailey Bieberâs limited-edition smoothie includes skin-enhancing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid (which, by the way, we did not know you could ingest) and sea moss, which Erewhon described as a âwellness supporting ingredient.â Coming in at $17, this smoothie promises to have your skin glowing from the inside out. If youâre like us and donât have an Erewhon Market nearby, or if you want to save money (doesnât everyone?), you can easily re-create the viral smoothie from the comfort of your kitchen. To find out if the smoothie is worth the hype, we tested it out for ourselves.
We followed the recipe Vital Proteins shared on their TikTok, which omits the hyaluronic acid and sea moss, making it more budget friendly. Although these two ingredients are the stars of the smoothie show, donât worry. This recipe is still packed with nutrient-dense flavors that are great for your skin. Almonds contain a nice dose of vitamin E and zinc, while strawberries are good for your heart, and collagen and hyaluronic acid may help your skin cell turnover. Plus, this recipe uses vegan cream instead of dairy, and both maple syrup and dates, sweeteners that have more nutrients than sugar.
That being said, if you want to make the smoothie more authentic to the one sold at Erewhon Market, hyaluronic acid and sea moss are both available to order online. The recipe we followed does call for a strawberry glaze, which you can make yourself. For a more convenient option, it can also be purchased from the store, or you can use an alternative like strawberry jam or preserves.
Once we had our ingredients assembled, it was as simple as tossing them into our Nutribullet and blending until everything was well combined. In the meantime, we used the back of a spoon to spread coconut cream and strawberry glaze onto the sides of our drinking glass. You can skip the aesthetics and put both ingredients at the bottom of your glass for the same effect.

Before trying the smoothie out for yourself, we would be remiss not to mention some quick tips. Depending on your blender, you may need to cut up the dates before blending to save yourself from big chunks of dates. Additionally, make sure to blend the smoothie thoroughly so that the collagen powder is well incorporated. Lastly, while dates, maple syrup, and strawberry glaze contain naturally occurring sugars, the amount this smoothie calls for is something to be mindful of. If you want to make it less sweet, you can simply use only one date or omit the maple syrup or strawberry glaze altogether.

Our thoughts as registered dietitians
We loved the texture of this smoothie. Thanks to the avocado, it was thick and creamy and much fluffier than other smoothies we have tried. The taste reminded us of a strawberry milkshake, and we would recommend this to anyone looking for a delicious post-workout snack or an on-the-go breakfast option.
For us, smoothies are our go-to summer breakfast, and we can see ourselves adding this to our weekly smoothie rotation. we love to toss a handful of greens into our smoothies for an extra nutrient boost, which we plan on doing with this recipe in the future. Chia seeds are our favorite smoothie topping to aid in digestion, and we think they would make an excellent match for this glowing skin smoothie.

While this smoothie does contain some amazing ingredients for your skin (think: healthy fats from the avocado, vitamin C from the strawberries, and collagen for tissue support), we wouldnât say itâs a magic cure-all for your skincare woes. As always, staying hydrated and eating a well-rounded diet rich in plants and other whole foods will provide essential nutrients to protect and keep your skin healthy.

We then poured a small amount of the strawberry glaze and coconut cream into the bottom of the glass, topped it with the smoothie, tossed in a straw, and basked in all of the sweet, skin-loving glory this smoothie promised.

Author’s Notes
You can replace Collagen Beauty Greens with fresh aloe vera. Aloe vera is a fantastic natural ingredient that helps our skin to retain moisture and improve elasticity. It is full of antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties, which makes it an excellent component to add to your smoothies.
Dates contain nutrients and antioxidants that can delay the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, giving your skin an extra glow.
