Don’t Sweat It: What to Wear on Every Possible Summer Date

Whether it’s your first or 100th, date nights always come with a little bit of added pressure compared to an ordinary day. Excitement, nerves, a little bit of overthinking—you’ll probably experience the full spectrum of human emotion before you even leave the house, which means the last thing you should be stressing about is your date-night outfit.

Just like the date itself, date-night outfits should be a little special. After all, you want to look and feel your absolute best, which means that you don’t want to be messing with an ill-fitting top or worrying about anything other than the person you’re with. Add in the layer of summer heat (and inevitably sweat) working against you, and you have a little bit of thinking to do—or you would if we didn’t do it for you.

Whether you’re headed to a patio for dinner for a glass (or five) of wine or going on a romantic picnic, we’ve figured out the perfect thing to wear, so what you remember is the date itself—not your sweaty thighs sticking to the back of your chair or running to the bathroom to dry your pit stains under the hand dryer.

To a rooftop bar

Is there a joy as great as a rooftop bar in the summer? We say not. There is nothing as put-together and fuss-free as a midi dress, and in a fun, summery hue with dressed-up accessories, you’ll feel like the 10 you are, no matter where the night takes you.

To a baseball game

Whether you’re there to watch baseball or simply to sip on a foot-tall margarita and eat a hot dog, you’ll feel cute doing it in this, and that’s a win for you—regardless of what team wins.

On a picnic

A picnic date sounds like a romcom-worthy dream come true, but when you’re going on one, in reality, it poses an important question: What in the hell do you wear for a date where you’re sitting on the ground? The answer is linen pants. You’ll be comfortable sitting down (and won’t have to worry about a dress blowing up or accidentally flashing anything you’d rather them not see yet). Make it a monochrome moment with a top in a similar hue, and you’ll feel the perfect level of dressy.

To a patio dinner

In glorious summertime, we’re simply turning to dresses as much as we can—especially for a nice dinner out. For an extra dressy feel, opt for black and top it off with heeled sandals and summery accessories. It’ll hit the perfect combination of being seasonally appropriate and also being fancy enough for that reservation you’ve been waiting months to snag.

To an outdoor concert

An outdoor concert look should prioritize fun over anything else, and what’s more fun than a pair of patterned pants? We rest our case. Opt for sneakers so you can stand and dance all night with ease and a tank top so that armpit sweat is no match for you. Finish it off with a statement bag, and you’ll be the best dressed one there.

On a walk to get ice cream

For a casual walk to grab ice cream at a local spot (preferably two scoops of superman ice cream or Jamaican grape nut), an easy, breezy romper and flat, walkable sandals are your best bet. Finish it off with a hydrating lip stain, won’t budge all night, and will provide an extra summery pop of color.

8 “In-Betweener” Influencers to Follow For Mid-Size Fashion Inspiration

We know we’re not alone when we say our relationship with fashion is more of a love-hate situation. For example, we love keeping up with the trend and putting outfits together. We hate when brands don’t make our size, or make it but only show their clothes on one body type letting the rest of us guess what a garment might look like on someone like us. The lack of representation of different body types has been an issue for a long time, and a slightly less discussed group that’s often left out are folks who might identify as in-betweeners.

RELATED: WILL IT FIT? STRADDLING BETWEEN STANDARD AND PLUS-SIZE

For some reason, those who fall somewhere in the middle of the clothing-size spectrum — maybe they wear mediums and larges or hit the far end of straight sizing without fitting into “plus” — tend to get looked over. How often do we browse a site and see clothing on someone who’s a size 8 or 10? Or spot a mid-size model on the runway? It’s rare, and yes, it’s weird, especially since a good amount of people fall into this category.

Thankfully, there are plenty of influencers out there who don’t mind picking up the slack. They express their style, share shopping recommendations and fashion hacks, and provide plenty of outfit ideas for anyone else who falls in between those elusive model body types of “sample” and “curve.” So, if you’ve ever wondered “but, what will that look like on me?!” while checking out the latest designs, here are eight mid-size women you should follow, ASAP.

Noelle Downing

Why You Should Follow Her:

Downing isn’t afraid to be honest, talking openly about self-love and body positivity. She always has cute and budget-friendly clothing recommendations, too, whether you’re in search of some classic denim, a flattering swimsuit, or a matching loungewear set.

Holly Ah-Thion

Why You Should Follow Her:

Not only does UK-based Ah-Thion highlight that she’s mid-size in her bio, but she’s also petite, which presents its own set of struggles when it comes to finding clothes that fit (ugh, long pants). Still, she completely nails every ’90s- and ’00s-inspired trend, and is ahead of the game on new ones, showing us how to pull off everything from pully tops to big collars.

Kristle Lauren

Why You Should Follow Her:

Sometimes, influencers pose in pieces that feel a bit too extreme and over-the-top for everyday wear, but that’s where Kristle comes in. She knows how to make the most of simple basics, creating completely wearable yet fashion-forward outfits that’ll work for whatever you have planned. Not only does Texas-based Kristle Lauren highlight that she’s mid-size in her bio but she highlights all her fits and where you can get them on her blog. So thank you ♡

Abi Nunn

Do you love prints? And color? And want fashion formulas that are quick and easy but not boring? Then you might find yourself captivated by all the cool, vibrant outfits on Nunn’s IG. She’ll show you simple swaps that’ll fully transform your ensembles, such as trading black leggings for a shiny pink pair and doesn’t shy away from embracing nostalgic trends, whether it’s a cardigan set or a baguette bag.

Lois Opoku

Why You Should Follow Her:

So much of what Opoku wears can be described with one word: versatility. While she has a set style, full of structured items, prints, and bits of leather, many of her outfits would work for a variety of scenarios, whether it’s a dressy date night or a day at the office.

Charlotte Emily Price

Why You Should Follow Her:

Price has found that sweet spot between cute and comfortable, often finding ways to elevate your average oversized shirt and pair of sweats. But, on top of sharing her top-notch outfit ideas (along with sexy lingerie picks!), she’s also spoken out about toxic positivity, reminding people it’s impossible to feel confident and great about our looks 24/7 while suggesting a goal of body neutrality instead.

Chloe Pavlou

Why You Should Follow Her:

A quick scroll through Pavlou’s pictures and you’ll find she excels at styling one piece in particular: The classic graphic tee. Her best outfits prove this piece can be layered in multiple ways, paired with almost any bottom, and amped up with accessories. You’ll start to see your collection in a whole new light.

Cozy Outfits That Are Perfect for a Casual Thanksgiving

Listen, I get it: even those amongst us who get the most joy from cute clothes are pretty over anything but sweats this year. What started as wearing real clothes just for ourselves to work from home has turned into fatigue and prioritizing comfort over all else—and hell, I think we deserve that.

You don’t need me to tell you that this year, Thanksgiving—which usually serves as the holiday with the highest-stakes outfit planning and the runway for proving your family that you are, in fact, the most fashionable cousin—looks a bit, well, different. Most of us aren’t going to put on our usual Thanksgiving look to sit in the house with our immediate family at most, but that doesn’t mean you have to wear your old, stained sweats; we say that the strategy for this year is wearing cute sweats.

Here’s How To Rock A Little Black Dress In 2020 With OH POLLY

While most of the outside world is slowly reopening after a lengthy six months of back-to-back business shutdowns, I feel the energy in the air returning along with a certain zest for life. As I yearn to reunite with loved ones, I marvel at how much I’d taken advantage of their quality time pre-pandemic. While others are still met with a slight hesitation when posed with the idea of moving freely around strangers once again, people such as myself are thrilled to rejoin society much more than anticipated.

With birthdays and celebrations being a never-ending season, what a better time for small occasional gatherings celebrating more life as we go into the final stretch of 2020. With holiday festivities soon to come as we quickly head into the winter months, I decided that widening my scope to shop outside of the sweatpants and leisure-wear I’ve been confined to since mid-March. As more events begin to fill up the rest of my 2020 calendar, I decided to round up my favorite go-to little black cocktail dresses this fall. Once retail stores began to reopen, I took advantage of items I saw myself wearing once “normal” life resumed.

Call me a shopaholic or optimistic, either way, here are three OH POLLY LBD styles I’m impatiently waiting to keep me chic all night long this holiday season:

The Cutout

I love anything designed with a pop of skin. Super modern, a cut out mini black dress is a perfect choice for a date or chic night on the town with your girlfriends. Ultra chic and reminiscent of a vintage 90’s silhouette, this ultra-chic v-cut out dress is one of my favorites finds this year. Styled with minimal jewelry, I allowed the dress to speak for itself.

Blazer Dress

This dress is tailored for the self-made girl boss. Dressed in all black with a plunging neckline, this look is the perfect structured look for a woman about her business during the day and cocktail hour at night. A classic silhouette that never goes out of style, don’t be afraid to steal your boyfriend’s oversized blazer jacket to easily achieve this super chic look.

Ruched in all the Right Places

Ruched details are having a major moment this year. This body-hugging design feature has been a personal favorite to enhance my figure, adding more curves and shape to the proper areas. This dress was definitely made for the GURLSSS, so I plan to find any excuse to wear this LBD for the coming holiday season.
